Sometimes I definitely have the best job in the world. Take last night for example – I needed to write about one of the restaurants participating in the Eat Local Challenge, so I went to Diegos and had an amazing meal with a wonderful wine from Coufos Cellars. Like many meals that are delicious and good for you, I felt invigorated after dinner instead of heavy and too full.
I’ve been trying to stay as local as possible when making my meal choices. As has become a common theme on my blogs, sometimes I’m more successful than others. This weekend (my weekend is Sunday and Monday, not the more traditional days,) we had a lot of unpacking and yard work to accomplish, so on Sunday I made us a farmer’s breakfast of bacon, eggs, and mini French toast. The eggs were local, the bacon was from an organic farm in Chico, and the French toast was created from a leftover local baguette that we had with dinner a couple of nights before. Not only did our meal meet the regional requirements, it was dense enough to carry us through an entire day of physical work without us needing to take snack breaks. Monday morning we went to South Pine. I’m not sure quite how local the ingredients in that breakfast were, but they’re usually pretty good about using local food when it’s available, and they serve Caroline’s coffee, so I’m covered there.
Now if only I could convince BriarPatch that it’s a work requirement for me to go out to our lovely local restaurants for dinner each night, I’d be set.
