The Eat Local Challenge is officially over, but I’m really glad that I participated this year. Some days were easier than others. Sometimes the lure of an Uptown Burrito was just too tempting to pass up, but I learned a lot. I’ve always paid attention to what food I buy — I work at BriarPatch after all, but this challenge really made me focus on having foods from as close to home as possible.

Another thing that I’m really grateful for is how much more I know about the growing season here. I grew up down the hill, so I knew what grew when in the Sacramento Valley, but there was some gray area as to the timing up here. Now I have a good handle on all of that, which should help out my gardening next year immensely.

I also really enjoyed everyone’s blogs. They kept me entertained and inspired and allowed me to feel like I wasn’t doing this alone. Having the experiences of others so readily available was a great incentive to keep on going. I’m going to miss reading about the goings-on of my fellow bloggers.

The Challenge is over, but my quest to eat as locally as possible will continue. And now I have more understanding and experience to boot!
