Last night was the first wine tasting event for the Eat Local Challenge. Grant Ramey from Grant-Eddie Winery was at BriarPatch pouring his wines. It was a pretty good event, our first in the eating-area instead of the Community Room. Because of the event, I did terrifically with drinking locally last night, and I had a great plan for dinner based around some regional chicken.
After cleaning up the wine rings and putting everything away, Charles and I went home. I took the chicken out of our cooler to start making dinner, and EWWW, the chicken was bad, bad, bad. Evidently the cooler hadn’t kept the chicken cool enough. There went our dinner plans! Charles dug around in the pantry and found some Annie’s mac & cheese. While dinner’s base was no longer regional, we added local tomatoes from Four Frog Farm to the mac & cheese and had a side of sauteed yellow squash also from Four Frog. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, dinner isn’t entirely regional. I guess that’s why it’s called a challenge!
