JOIN THE CO-OP

It’s Easy To Join (ask a cashier)

1. Read, complete, and sign an Ownership Agreement/Application.

Download an Ownership Agreement/Application

2. Pay $20 to start. Renew with additional $20 payments ($10 low income rate) every 6 months until your $200 Fair Share Investment is fully paid. Renewing keeps your ownership active and eligible for all benefits (or pay the full $200 and we'll give you a $25 gift certificate).

Your investment is refundable at any time when you resign your ownership.

  • Food Safety Alerts - We keep up with food safety news, and send alerts by email as issues arise.

  • Local Business Discounts on goods, services, classes; listed in the newsletter and here.
  • Newsletter mailed for your convenience.

  • Newsletter Ad Discounts Run a free classified ad and/or take $20 off a display ad (1-time) in the bimonthly Vine.

  • Community Room Discount - Pay half the hourly rental fee for nonprofit meetings and classes.

  • Volunteer Discount - 10% off purchases for volunteering in the store for selected positions (subject to availability).

Besides the tangible benefits of being a BriarPatch owner, many people join for the values:

  • Pride in supporting community. BriarPatch itself is a local, community-owned business, and we promote a strong and sustainable community by supporting other local businesses. Every dollar spent at BriarPatch has roughly three times as much local economic impact as a dollar spent at a non-locally owned business.

  • Investing in the future. BriarPatch supports products and services that ensure personal and planetary health: a legacy we can be proud to leave our children and generations to come.

What is a Co-op?

You own it
A co-op is a business that is owned and controlled by the people who use it. A cooperative’s purpose is to serve the mutual needs of its owners, not to maximize profits for a single owner or for stockholders.

BriarPatch Co-op, founded in 1976, is part of a worldwide cooperative movement that seeks to promote positive social and economic change through cooperative action.

Everyone Is Welcome

You don’t have to be an owner to shop at BriarPatch, and everyone pays the same prices. Being an owner entitles you to an annual dividend when given, as well as special order and other discounts. (See other side.)

Volunteering

BriarPatch owners are not required to work in the store; in fact, most don’t. For those interested in volunteering, there may be opportunities to earn a 10% discount by working six hours per month (3 hours for seniors) for each adult in the household. Volunteer applications are available at the Customer Service Window.
