Winners chosen for CAUSE, Community Fund

BriarPatch Co-op is proud to announce that five local nonprofit groups have been selected to receive our Cooperative Community Fund grants for 2016. Grants totaling $3,000 will be given to the Tsi Akim Maidu tribe, Interfaith Food Ministry, Breastfeeding Coalition of Nevada County, Partners Family Resource Centers, and 211 Nevada County. Each group will receive $750 or $500 for the worthy projects proposed in their applications.

The Tsi Akim Maidu plans to use the funds to support establishing a native plant educational garden. The Breastfeeding Coalition and 211 Nevada County will use their grant funds for outreach. The Partners Family Resource Centers’ funds are to be earmarked for emergency food and clothing for low income and homeless families. Interfaith Food Ministry will receive funds to purchase soy butter for clients with nut allergies.

Local organizations were also selected to be recipients of Co-op CAUSE shopper donations in 2017. CAUSE stands for “Change Adds Up, Supporting Everyone,” and this program raises funds from generous shoppers who donate change at checkout.

The groups selected for this program are: Nevada County Grown, Nevada City Farmers’ Market, NEO (New Events and Opportunities for youth), Neighborhood Center of the Arts, Divine Spark, Hospitality House, and Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release.

The members of the 2016 donation committee were: Alana Lucia, BriarPatch Board Director; Robert Zuener, volunteer; Bekah Dietz, Assistant Front End Manager; and Stephanie Mandel, Marketing Manager.
